OCTOBER MONTH MESSAGE
Part - 5
PROPHECY
First God fills us with the Holy Spirit. Then during prayer time he gives us the
prophecy gift. We see in the days of Apostles the move of the spirit as recorded in this verse. “And when Paul had laid his hands upon them, The Holy Ghost came on them. And they spake with tongues, and prophesied”. (Acts 19:6) while prophesying, “if you alter God’s word by adding or subtracting we will be unfaithful. In the initial stages we get only a few words to prophecy. During this when a person in addition to what God says if he adds some words to please the people, then the other spirit begins to act. God looks at our faithfulness to him and keep on increasing our prophetic utterances. Our prophetic gift must keep on improving day by day. Today people get money from abroad for orphanages and spend this money for their own children in a lavish way. How can God give his heavenly gift such as prophecy to such kind of unfaithful servants. We should not forget that the eyes of the Lord are always up on the faithful servants of God. “And behold, I come quickly and my reward is with me, to give every man according as his work shall be.” (Rev 22:12).
“And I thank Christ JESUS our Lord, who hath enabled me, for that, he counted me faithful, putting me into the ministry”. (I Tim 1:12) God saw the faithfulness in St Paul and gave him a glorious ministry. Only when a person is faithful God can increase the gift of prophecy and his ministry. St. Paul during his life had been a forerunner than the other apostles in many ways. We should never forget that God is watching us whether we are true to him or not. We should always speak the truth and never tell lies. Paul was faithful in all his ministry. Is our ministry faithful and true in the presence of God?
“His Lord said unto him, well done, thou good and faithful servant; thou hast been faithful over a few things, I will make thee ruler over many things; enter thou into the joy of thy Lord”. (Mt 25:21). What is the use of prophesying in the name of the Lord and not faithful in our lives?. “Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name?…….And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you; depart from me, ye that work iniquity.” (Mt 7:22-23) What is the use of giving false prophecy and going to hell? How sad it is.
Moses and Paul were faithful to God in all aspects. Let us be faithful in the small ministry which our dear Lord hath given us and enter into His kingdom joyfully. “Surely the Lord God will do nothing, but he revealeth his secret unto his servants the prophets.” (Amos 3:7) We see in the above verse that God will not do anything without revealing his plan to the prophets.
Kings of Israel and Judah went to inquire about the war from the Prophets. Prophets will foretell all the things that will come to pass in a country. “The secret of the Lord is with them that fear him; and he will shew them his covenant”. (Ps 25:14). The eyes of the prophet will always look at the future. God told Prophet Moses that he would deliver the Israelites from the bondage in Egypt and bring them to the land of Cannan. The future of His people are in the hands of JESUS CHRIST. Moreover a prophet will know the mind of the Lord and reveal God’s plan to his people. The prophets foretold the birth of JESUS, His life, His ministry, death on the cross, words He spoke on the cross and His resurrection. JESUS CHRIST said I came to fulfil the prophecies.
Once two brothers came to a prophet for prayer. First brother went to many false prophets to enquire about his job. By looking at his zeal for ministry, poor education, the false prophet said that he has a full time calling. But the true prophet looked at the same brother and said you don’t have a full time calling, very soon you will get a job; Within a few months he got a job in a central Government office. Today he is doing the Lord’s work by staying in a God given job. To the second brother the true prophet had said that the Lord will prosper his ministry. Though this had difficult times in the beginning, in course of time started doing well because of God’s grace. Today he has a growing church. Thus the prophecies were fulfilled.
“And the Lord said, shall I hide from Abraham that thing which I do” (Gen 18:17). “Abraham is a prophet “.(Gen 20:7). Abraham revealed that his generation will be in bondage in a strange land for 400 years. God revealed to Abraham the destruction that is to befall on Sodom and Gomorrah. In every generation God raises many prophets. Then God communes with the prophets by revealing his divine secret plan. Today we can go to the prophets to know the good or bad concerning us.
“The lion hath roared, who will not fear? The Lord God hath spoken, who can but prophesy?’ (Amos 3:8). When God reveals a particular thing to a prophet then that prophet must certainly prophecy. A prophet has to say whatever the Lord reveals instead he cannot hide a part and reveal a part whatever the Lord tells, a prophet has to prophecy.
All the divine plans of the Lord are with the prophets. God had always revealed his plan to different prophets down the ages. We can go to a prophet to inquire about our business plans, marriage, ministry etc. “Where there is no vision, the people perish”. (Prov 29:18)
The Children of Israel could not hear the word of God since there were no prophets. There was spiritual darkness among the children of Israel. During this period every man in Israel began to go away from God in following his own paths. They sinned against God and brought curses upon them. There was no prophet to lead them to God. People did not know the mind of God as there was no prophet to guide them. Hence their worship was a routine one without any spiritual fire. A church cannot grow in spirit if there is no prophet in the church. A pastor will conduct the service, give the message; administer the church activities, accept tithes and offerings. But the prophet will inquire about a person and tell all about him. In short a prophet will reveal the mind of a person and correct him for his spiritual growth.
There are problems in all the churches, and they are increasing day by day. Many believers backslide, indulge in committing grave sin, outwardly they pretend to be believers but inwardly they are away from the Lord. In many places believers commit suicide. How sad it is. It is all because there are no genuine prophets in today’s church. I humbly request you to call, invite genuine prophets to your church meetings there by you will receive God’s abundant blessings in your church.
